Mammography Dispute
The government's issued controversial new guidelines stating that women shouldn't get annual mammograms until age 50, rather than age 40.

Friday: Pittsfield’s Halloween Parades!

Friday night don't miss the 65th annual Pittsfield Halloween Parade, featuring marching bands, great spooky floats from all the elementary schools and much more. Fun for the whole family! And earlier in the day there's a special indoor Halloween parade for accompanied preschoolers at the Berkshire Athenaeum! The parade route begins in the children's library, and makes its way all through the library, with treat stops at library departments.

Friday: Halloween Parties at Mazzeo’s & Pittsfield Brew Works

A rocking Halloween ball at Mazzeo’s is being held to raise money for the William Joppru memorial fund for educational programs at Wild Acres by Williams School, with the Bad Larry Band playing blues and rock and roll.  And the Berkshire Young Professionals host their third annual Halloween Bash at Pittsfield BrewWorks, featuring music, prizes, great noshes, and treats for all attendees. Prizes for best overall costume and best duo will be awarded during the event.  And costumes are required!

Friday & Saturday: The Devil's Disciple @ BCC

The Berkshire Community College Players perform The Devil's Disciple by George Bernard Shaw this weekend!  A suspense-filled melodrama that takes place during the American Revolution, the play is full of Shaw’s wry wit and social commentary, and pokes fun at the shams, repressions, sentimentalities, insincerities, and ideals of Shaw's time, as well as today. The production features Justin Medina as the dashing hero, Gabrielle Smachetti as the struggling heroine, Dana Grieb as the pious and cruel mother, Jerry Greene as the reprobate son, and Brian Plouffe as General "Gentlemanly Johnny" Burgoyne.

A truly epic Halloween party, Berkshire Shenanigans style (they are a great team of locals dedicated to providing fabulous nightlife options in the Berkshires)! Featuring Berkshire Shenanigans' singularly wonderful decorations and atmospherics, including graffiti artist Arest Rock's specially commissioned Halloween paintings, DJ BFG, DJ B-17 Bomber, and those klezmer-punk-gypsy wranglers, Bella's Bartok! Last year saw Jason Maley as Axl Rose and Tony as Slash when they performed Appetite for Destruction as Guns n Roses. No telling who they will become this year! Andy Wrba and friends with members of Barefoot Truth will be sharing the bill, plus a costume contest, the best Malaysian food, prizes, and surprises in store for all who attend! 21+

The Berkshire Writers Room holds its Annual Membership Meeting in the Susan B. Anthony Lounge at Berkshire Community College. The meeting is free and open to BWR members and to the general public. The Berkshire Writers Room is a non-profit organization, holding monthly group meetings in fiction, non-fiction, poetry and scriptwriting in Pittsfield and Great Barrington. All individuals with an interest in writing, from fledgling writers to published authors, are encouraged to attend.
