NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Students and faculty from three sociology classes at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts host a Hunger Banquet fundraiser and food drive Wednesday, November 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Room 218 of Murdock Hall on the MCLA campus.
The public is invited to attend. Tickets are $1 or one non-perishable food item.
All proceeds will be donated to a local food pantry or soup kitchen. The goal of the banquet is to demonstrate the social and economic inequalities surrounding the distribution of resources, including food, across the globe.
“It is a forum for students in these classes to share their knowledge about global poverty and inequality, as well as the ways in which people around the world are working to bring about greater equity and justice,” said Dr. Sumi Colligan, one of the organizers.
Attendees will be assigned positions in various socioeconomic classes and will dine accordingly. Many will be assigned a “persona” and some will be asked to read their stories as the evening unfolds.
For information and reservations contact Dr. Colligan at s.colligan@mcla.edu or 662-5472.
