SANDISFIELD, Mass. — A committee guiding development of a commemorative book for the town's 250th anniversary is seeking material for the book, slated for completion in 2012. The comprehensive history will cover the principal institutions, historical personalities and key events that influenced everyday life through the years. Local historian Bernard A. Drew will edit the book, provisionally titled "Sandisfield Revisited: 1762-2012." The book is intended to be the definitive historical reference for Sandisfield, preserving the heritage for future generations and fostering pride among old and new residents. The book will include histories of Sandisfield institutions, businesses and civic groups, as well as sketches about the everyday life of Sandisfield's "old-timers," newcomers and colorful personalities. "Then and now" chapters will feature older homes, farms and distinct sections of town. Topics such as the roles of farming, religious communities, immigration, news events and town government also will be featured. Residents and others are welcome to submit old photos of houses and people and recollections of bygone days. If you would like to contribute photographs or family history, or are interested in being on the Commerative Book Committee, contact Ron Bernard at 413-269-0012 or Ronbernard@aol.com, or Liana Toscanini at 413-441-9542 or liana@communityaccesstothearts.org. |

This will be a wonderful event and I intend to be involved. My ancestors (the name was Rice then) settled this town ca. 1765 and their descendants now cover America. I have a lot of material and have been researching the town and my ancestral history there since 1973.
