North Adams Babe Ruth Sets Registration Dates

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — North Adams Babe Ruth has set registration dates for the 2010 season.

The NABR district includes North Adams, Clarksburg, Williamstown, Lanesborough, New Ashford, Hancock and Florida, Mass., as well as Stamford, Heartwellville and Readsboro, Vt. Players ages 13, 14 or 15 are eligible.

Beginning this year, the league is adding a senior division for 16- to 18-year-old players. As the only BR senior division in the area, it is also open to players from Berkshire County towns outside the NABR district, including the existing Adams and Pittsfield BR districts. The senior division will play approximately 12 games beginning in June in order to avoid conflicts with high school schedules.

Signups will be held on the following dates both at the American Legion in North Adams and at Mt. Greylock Regional High School:

• Tuesday, March 2, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, March 3, from 6 to 7:30 p..m

Registration forms will be available on site or can be downloaded  in advance.

All players must bring the $60 registration fee (siblings $50 each) to complete their registration. New players must also bring a birth certificate.

Tryouts for new NABR players will be held at the Williams College Field House on the following dates:

Saturday, March 20

• 13- to 15-year-olds from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
• 16- to 18-year-olds from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Sunday, March 21

• 13- to 15-year-olds from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
• 16- to 18-year-olds from 10:30 to noon

SteepleCats Shut Out on Road

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Four Vermont pitchers combined to strike out 11 and allow four hits Tuesday as the Mountaineers beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 11-0, in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
 
Evan Meier, Bobby Stang, Tonny Woodie and Chris Diaz each had a hit for the SteepleCats, who used five pitchers in the loss.
 
North Adams (0-2) comes home Tuesday to host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wolfe Field.
