Allendale School to Host 'Zumba for Haiti' Fundraiser

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Allendale Elementary School will host a "Zumba for Haiti" fundraiser on Friday, March, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Allendale Elementary School. Tickets for the fundraiser are $15 minimum donation and can be purchased in person at Berkshire Nautilus on Mondays/Wednesdays at 5:30 or 6:30 p.m. by Sharon Scace or calling 413-) 281-7708 or 413-841-9148 or email: ssfitness@nycap.rr.com or umasmarie@yahoo.com. The event is being advertised as an all-out, knock-your-socks-off  Zumba fitness party, to help raise money for supplies to Haiti. Zumba fuses Latin rhythms and international dances to create a one-of-a kind dancing fitness experience. There will be special performances of folkloric Afro-Haitian drumming and singing featuring Aimee Gelinas of Gaia Roots, Chris Hairston, Daniel Cohen, and dancers Kim Waterman and Marie Georgefils with special guests the Berkshire Rhythm Keepers featuring drum students from Aimee Gelinas' monday night drum class at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts in Pittsfield. As one of the poorest-country in the World, Haiti still needs help. Haitian Zumba instructor Marie G. still has family in Haiti. She is grateful at the opportunity in making a positive contribution to her country with the community's help.

Everyone is welcome. Attendees may bring colorful party/fitness attire, party accessories (example: body paint, hair accessories, hip scarves, etc.). There will be a team contest for the best outfits/props.

Proceeds will make it possible for donations of supplies to reach Haiti.

Dalton Select Board Argues Over Sidewalk Article

DALTON, Mass. — A heated discussion concerning sidewalks during Monday night's Select Board meeting resulted in the acting chair calling a recess to cool the situation. 
 
The debate stemmed from the two articles on the town meeting warrant for May 6 at 7 p.m. at Wahconah Regional High School. 
 
One proposes purchasing a sidewalk paver for $64,000 so sidewalks can be paved or repaired for less money, but they will use asphalt rather than concrete. The other would amend the town's bylaws to mandate the use of concrete for all future sidewalks. 
 
The article on concrete sidewalks was added to the warrant through a citizen petition led by resident Todd Logan. 
 
The board was determining whether to recommend the article when member John Boyle took the conversation in a new direction by addressing how the petition was brought about. 
 
"I just have a comment about this whole procedure. I'm very disappointed in the fact that you [Logan] have been working, lobbying various groups and implementing this plan and filed this petition six weeks ago. You never had any respect for the Select Board and …" Boyle said. 
 
Before Boyle could finish his statement, which was directed to Logan, who was in the audience, Chair Joe Diver called point of order via Zoom.
