NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Two new bicycle racks have been installed in the downtown thanks to a generous donation to the Develop North Adams Greenspace fund by Every Day Health.

The new racks are located next to the North Adams Cooperative Art Gallery in the Berkshire Plaza and nearby Wireless Zone.

Develop North Adams has built a number of partnerships with groups and businesses over the past 16 months. The nonprofit has been part of nearly $30,000 in private investment that has been used to bring benches and pocket parks to the downtown.

Every Day Health, formerly Waterfront Media, provides consumers, health-care professionals, and brands with content and advertising-based services across a broad portfolio of more than 25 websites that span the health spectrum. The company's North Adams office is on the second floor of the former Roberts Co. in the plaza.

Some 10 to 20 of the company's employees are expected to use the racks daily, along with area residents and visitors. According to a statement from the company, "Being a company invested in the health and well being of all and with the commencement of a Wellness Program within our office we wanted to get a jump-start on having the bike racks in place as we prepare and encourage our employees to seek a healthier and fun means of transportation for themselves as well as the environment."

In the spring, the state Department of Transportation and the Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition celebrates bicycle transportation with an annual Bike to Work Week campaign.

The bike rack effort was spearheaded by the company's Daniel Weissbrodt (and artists and marketing, and partnerships director) and Jennifer Bayliss (manager of fitness) with the support of Patrick Brannan, vice president of customer service, and Ann Blocker, manager of office services and human resources.

David Carver and David Bond of Scarafoni associates allowed one of the racks to be used on their property near Berkshire Bank and the Verizon Wireless Zone, while Mayor Richard Alcombright allowed the second to be installed on city property.

New North Adams Restaurant Approved for Liquor License

By Tammy DanielsiBerkshires Staff
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A new restaurant on Main Street, a provisions shop and a convenience store all got the nod from the License Commission on Tuesday.

Siblings Colleen and Sean Taylor are expanding their cuisine empire yet again with the establishment of Main & Mill in the old TD Bank. They were before the commission to apply for an all-alcohol license.

The building is owned by Ginko on Main Street LLC, which has granted 20 years exclusive possession of the property to Latent Builds as the developer. Jack and Suzy Wadsworth, behind Ginko, are development partners with Salvatore Perry and Karla Rothstein of Latent.

The bank closed in early 2021 and purchased by Ginko late that year. Plans for the property unveiled three years ago envisioned a restaurant, retail, a park and rooftop bar.

The building's hosted some pop-up eateries and is currently under construction for the new restaurant.

Colleen Taylor said the restaurant will be open seven days a week serving lunch and dinner, and be open early for coffee.

"It's not going to be a very big restaurant. It's about the same size as Trail House, except for Trail House has a bigger patio, so about the same seating," she said.
