The class will focus on American Heart Association guidelines on CPR, which highlight hands-only CPR.

The day will begin with a First Aid class that covers beginners and renewals at 8:30 a.m. That will be followed by CPR certification for both beginners and renewals at 10:30 a.m. From 1 to 3 p.m. is a class for anyone who needs a new or renewal Basic Life Support certification. Prices for classes are First Aid, $25; CPR with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training, $40; with First Aid added, $65; and Basic Life Support, $65.

Businesses or organizations interested in offering any combination of classes may contact REACH for Community Health at 413-664-5321.

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers is intended for healthcare professionals seeking a renewal and students entering nursing, medical assistant, surgical technology, and other medical fields, as well as for first responders. The course expands on the Heartsaver level and includes information on two-person rescuer CPR and rescue breathing.

Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED was designed to prepare a wide variety of people who want or need to learn CPR. The course also covers the basics of first aid.

Cardiac arrest can result from heart attack, drowning, electric shock, and other problems. Studies show that effective CPR, quickly administered, improves survival from cardiac arrest.

Employees from the REACH for Community Health Department at North Adams Regional Hospital have been certified by the American Heart Association to conduct the community classes. Classes are approximately three to four hours long.

Upon demonstration of the skills taught in the course, the student will receive a Healthcare Provider or Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED course completion card. For more information or to register for an upcoming CPR, First Aid or BLS class, please call 413-664-5321.
