PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College is offering several health and exercise workshops for the spring semester that begins Monday, Jan. 23.
"Shake Your Soul" (WKS-1159), also known as Kripalu yoga dance, is offered for adults of all ages and abilities. Each student moves at her or his own pace and based on each person’s own range of motion. The benefits include improved flexibility; strength and grace; an increased feeling of wholeness and vitality; a reduction in stress; cardiovascular fitness and improved brain health; and a connection with other people. No prior dance training is necessary. Classes, taught by Barbara Pastie, certified yoga instructor, meet Monday, Jan. 23 through March 5, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on BCC’s main campus. Cost is $50.
"Foundations of Yoga I" (WKS-281) a new workshop that gives beginners and experienced students alike an introduction to the foundation of a yoga posture and breath work practice. Students will use yoga to build strength and flexibility, increase balance and coordination, improve focus and body awareness, and develop stress management skills. Classes, taught by Anne Alquist, certified yoga instructor, meet Tuesday, Jan. 31 through March 6, from 6 to 7:45 p.m. on BCC’s main campus. Cost is $90.
The following new running workshops are offered in collaboration with the Berkshire Running Center and will meet at 42 Summer St. in Pittsfield. Both classes are taught by Shiobbean Archey and Kent Lemme, consultants.
"Run the Westfield Marathon" (WKS-1640) an eight-week program that includes training for cardiovascular fitness, strength training, injury prevention, nutrition and core conditioning. The culmination of the training will be a group trip to Westfield to complete the Oleskasak Half Marathon on March 25. Classes meet Saturday, Jan. 28 through March 17, from 7 to 9 a.m. Cost is $175. (Fee does not include registration for marathon.)
"Run the Holyoke 10K St. Patrick's Race" (WKS-1641) includes training for cardiovascular fitness, strength training, injury prevention, nutrition and core conditioning. The culmination of the training will be a group trip to Holyoke to participate in one of the largest St. Patrick's Day races in the Northeast. Classes meet Saturday, Jan 28 through March 17, from 7 to 9 a.m. Cost is $155. (Fee does not include registration for the race.)
