Clarksburg Selectmen Carl McKinney and Lily Kuzia will interview the two finalists for the town adminstrator position on Tuesday.
CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The Selectmen will publicly interview the two candidates for town administrator on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 6:30 p.m. in the Selectmen's meeting room.

The date was announced during a 5-minute meeting of the board on Wednesday evening.

"Given the fact that two candidates were put forward by the Administrator Search Committee, I feel it incumbent upon myself and the board to conduct open, public interviews with the two finalists," said Chairman Carl McKinney.

The search committee reviewed about a dozen resumes before selecting four candidates, two of which withdrew. The finalists are Debra LeFave and David Tatro, both with town roots. LeFave was chairman of the Selectmen before quitting to apply for the post, causing some residents to raise concerns about favoritism from her fellow board members.

McKinney said the interview process was hammered out over the past week with current Town Administrator Michael Canales, who is leaving for a job in North Adams. The interviews will be done publicly but only the selectmen will ask questions. McKinney said residents who have questions they feel should be answered should contact either him or Selectwoman Lily Kuzia and they would take them under consideration.

He said the concern was that the process be professional and that "the candidates are treated with respect."

"There's a lot riding in the balance here and I want to make sure its done properly," he said, adding that board does not expect to go into executive session and may not make a decision on Tuesday.

"We may need some time to digest," he said. "Hopefully, we'll get a finalist we can agree on."
