Saturday: Baby Animals on the Shaker Farm

Hancock Shaker Village kicks off its 2012 season with the 10th annual Baby Animals on the Shaker Farm event. This spring celebration is one of the most exciting times of the year at the Village, when scores of baby lambs, piglets, calves, goats, ducklings and chicks arrive at the historic Round Stone Barn. And yes, they'll be open on Easter Sunday!

Saturday: Pittsfield's Annual Easter Egg Scramble

Greylock Federal Credit Union and the City of Pittsfield presents its Annual Easter Egg Scramble at Morningside Community School,  free for all Pittsfield children. Bring your own basket, and the Easter Bunny is scheduled to make a very special appearance. The schedule for the differing age groups is as follows: 10:30 a.m. for 8 & 9 year olds10:40 a.m. for 6 & 7 year olds10:55 a.m. for 4 & 5 year olds; and 11:10 a.m. for 2 & 3 year olds. One winner in each age group who finds the golden egg will receive a special prize!

The Berkshire Museum presents Atka the Arctic Gray Wolf, as part of its Animals Up Close series. The nine-year-old Atka comes from the Wolf Conservation Center of South Salem, New York. Thursday: Berkshires Jazz Student Art Contest

The Berkshire Museum and Berkshires Jazz, Inc., present this student art contest, featuring the works of more than 100 students from Pittsfield, Taconic and St. Joseph's High Schools and Miss Hall's School on display. The first-prize winning work will become part of the publicity for the 2012 Pittsfield CityJazz Festival. The ceremony is open to the public. Berkshires Jazz Youth Ensemble will perform live. Refreshments will be served.

Toy Library Installed at Onota Lake

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Feel free to use or leave a toy at Onota Lake's newest infrastructure meant to foster community and benefit kids.

Burbank Park now has a toy library thanks to Wahconah Regional High School senior Alexandra Bills. Located along the wall at the beach area, the green and blue structure features two shelves with sand toys that can be used to enhance children's visits.

The Parks Commission supported Bills' proposal in February as part of her National Honors Society individual service project and it was installed this month. Measuring about 4 feet wide and 5.8 feet tall, it was built by the student and her father with donated materials from a local lumber company.

Friends and family members provided toys to fill the library such as pails, shovels, Frisbees, and trucks.

"I wanted to create a toy library like the other examples in Berkshire County from the sled library to the book libraries," she told the commission in February.

"But I wanted to make it toys for Onota Lake because a lot of kids forget their toys or some kids can't afford toys."

Bills lives nearby and will check on the library weekly — if not daily — to ensure the operation is running smoothly.  A sign reading "Borrow-Play-Return" asks community members to clean up after themselves after using the toys.

It was built to accommodate children's heights and will be stored during the winter season.
