Friday: Alt Twang with Colt 6 & Henry's Rifle

Amour Movie

Friday & Saturday:  An Evening with Evaline Kimball at Arrowhead

The Berkshire Historical Society at Arrowhead, as part of its exhibit, The Kimball-Salisbury Women: Chicago to Tor Court, 1890-1930, hosts a series of candlelight performances. Guests will be guided by "Evaline Kimball” herself, giving a unique perspective on the history of the gowns and the women who wore them. Refreshments will be served. Limited space, so reserve early.

Love and Greed at BCC

The Berkshire Community College Players presents Shakespeare's Love and Greed.  Award winning playwright, Yvette Jamuna Sirker, has combined text from Hamlet, As You Like It, Midsummer Night's Dream, Antony and Cleopatra, Measure for Measure, Macbeth and sonnets to tell and tale of love and greed set in a present day nightclub called Mac's.

Art With Heart  

Saturday:  Art With Heart at Moments House

Moments House offers a free art program where participants create art projects that serve as gifts at the local treatment office for cancer patients. They are meant to brighten their day and remind them that their friends and neighbors are thinking of them and supporting them during their cancer journey. These workshops are open to kids of all ages.

In Parsifal, Jonas Kaufmann stars in the title role of the innocent who finds wisdom in François Girard's new vision for Wagner's final masterpiece. Eamonn Barry  

Thursday: Eamonn Barry at Marketplace Cafe

In 2008, after being inspired by the movie Walk The Line, Eamonn Barry started writing a series of folk songs that would become his first demonstration recordings. He has played the Word X Word festival twice with the bands Roz Raskin & the Rice Cakes and Over the Mountain. Eamonn has also played at The Dream Away Lodge as a featured musician. He resides in Pittsfield.

Former Harry's Supermarket Under Construction for Restaurant

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Construction is underway to transform the former Harry's Supermarket into a restaurant

Late last month, the Conservation Commission greenlit some tree pruning on the property. New windows and a new door can be seen in the front of the building. 

"It's a substantial renovation that's currently underway here," Brent White of White Engineering said, speaking on behalf of the applicant and owner, Huajie Zhu. 

A fire gutted the longtime Wahconah Street supermarket in 2023, and the following year, Zhu purchased the property for $460,000 two years ago to build a restaurant with hibachi in the existing footprint of the more than 100-year-old building. 

White explained that the project has been ongoing for over a year, and the Community Development Board granted the property a waiver to reduce the minimum required number of parking spaces so that additional spaces aren't needed.  

He noted that, looking at the site plan, there is very little room to do so. A mirror will be installed near the sharp turn on Bel Air Avenue to alleviate traffic concerns. 

Pruning will be done on trees in the southeast corner of the existing paved parking lot, as a number of branches are hanging over. The new owners also intend to patch, sealcoat, and re-stripe the parking lot. 

A fire tore through the building less than an hour after the supermarket closed for the day three years ago. An automatic sprinkler system is required for the new use.
