Crystal Hard Hat Saloon owner Todd Hebert aims to raise money for the Shriners Hospital for Children of Springfield on Sunday at the Canal Street Family Fair.
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Crystal Hard Hat Canal Street Family Fair to benefit Shriners Hospital for Children of Springfield will take place this Sunday from noon to 9.

The event will include food, music, a bounce house, games, a display of old cars and motorcycles and a Chinese auction. Admission to the fair is free.

Crystal Hard Hat Saloon owner and event coordinator Todd Hebert said the goal is to raise money for the Shriners and that all proceeds from the event will go to their cause.

"Our main thing is supporting the hospital in any way we can," Hebert said.

A longtime supporter of Shriners Hospital, which provides care for children with burns and neuromusculoskeletal issues, this will be Hebert's sixth time raising money for the hospital and his second holding the fair — for a total of about $17,000 raised. Though Hebert says the fair didn't go as well as he hoped last year, the event has really picked up this year.

"This year it really took off," he said. "We have 60-something vendors."

The vendors will mostly consist of jewelry shops, pocketbook makers and other craft-related business, as well as a dozen different food vendors.

For entertainment, rock 'n' roll band Red Handed will perform, disc jockeys from Ultimate Entertainment Adams will be on hand and there will be karaoke.

Hebert said the fair created enough traction to close traffic to Canal Street and stretch from Eagle Street to Union Street. He also said the Fire and Police departments are on board with the event and he and his fellow coordinators, attorney James Sisto of Berkshire Elder Law Center and Nathan Samson of Ultimate Entertainment Adams, have had full support from the city itself.

In addition, Hebert said that so far, several volunteers have already signed up to help with the event, including the Tunnel City Motorcycle Club, of which he is the president. He also noted that several others have shown interest and will volunteer.

There will also be a donation booth available throughout the event. Hebert encourages everyone to donate as it is a cause he feels strongly about.

"I believe every kid deserves a fair chance," he said.

Those interested in volunteering can contact Sistos at 413-664-7700, Hebert at 413-663-5138, or Samson at 413-884-2008.
