DownStreet Art Returns to North Adams on July 25
Join the celebration of the 2nd DownStreet Art Thursday of the 2013 season, curb-side dance and music performances, business specials, live animals, mural unveilings, and nine new exhibition openings!
Below are the full details for this Thursday's DownStreet Art! Along with the events/exhibitions listed below, restaurants and businesses of North Adams will be remaining open late.

New Murals! Peter Dudek's Mural Series "Houses Dreaming (And then Some"
Departing from 51 Main Street Click here for more information. Join artist Peter Dudek for an unveiling of his multi-paneled mural project. House Dreaming (and then some),” includes five different images posted in various places throughout the downtown area. It is DownStreet Art's fourth public mural commission. The public is invited to attend a mural 'crawl' guided by Peter Dudek, which will depart at 6:30pm from Gallery 51 on Main Street. Installed on walls on Main Street, near parking lots and on side streets, the murals create a back and forth, connect-the-dots type of experience for viewers, which require some backtracking to piece them all together. |

Paint It Big! Paint It Public! The Rhinoceros, Teen Mural
Main St. alley between Sheer Madness & Eagle St. Music Gather at 5:30pm in the alley between Sheer Madness and Eagle Street Music as we celebrate the culmination of the work of local teenagers. A teen mural workshop led by artist Andrew Davis as a program of the Clark. Students create a mural based on Albrecht Durer's sixteenth century woodcut The Rhinoceros. |

Gallery 51 Ibrahim Quraishi's "Dreaming Arizona"

July 25/ August 25 - "Dreaming Arizona" Brought to fruition after months and months of research spent in the "cowboy lands”, "Dreaming Arizona" is a sensory experience that engulfs the viewer, making them a part of the installation itself. It is a metaphoric journey through the legendary Highway 64 that exposes the end of cowboy-ism through a series of seven films within seven different time frames and seven sets of large-scale photo prints. Further intensifying this immersive experience are the presence of live pygmy goats, who serve to complement this exhibit. Also joining Quraishi in creating this exhibit is frequent collaborator and Paris-based electronic musician Norscq, who has also been one of the key instigators of the French underground scene for more than 15 years. |

PRESS: Letterpress as a Public Art Project Valerie Carrigan's "Liminality"

July 25/ August 25 – "Liminality" Featuring the work of local artist, Valerie Carrigan, "Liminality" is an exhibition that showcases prints and artist books that mark the space between having departed but not yet arrived. Liminality is an intermediate state, phase, or condition. The work in this exhibition merges Valerie's personal experiences with the concept of liminality. And as always, the PRESS team will be operating the Vandercook press and printing the give-away-card-of-the-month throughout the evening! |

"Messages From Iran" showcases the work of three of Iran's top artists, each exploring what it means to be a citizen of Iran, of the Middle East and of the larger global world in which we all live in. Solly dares to challenge the system, bringing us three beautiful, yet haunting Video works. ""These video artists belong to a generation whose childhood was spent on war and violence and who are now living under threat of boycotting and war from foreign countries. Branch Gallery Michelle Lauriat's "Spot Pond"
18 Holden Street Click here for more information. July 25/August 25 – "Spot Pond" Michele Lauriat presents"Spot Pond". The exhibition includes a series of 7ft tall watercolor drawings that are inspired by the conservation area, Spot Pond, in Melrose, MA. As a child, Michele would go to Spot Pond with her father and pick blueberries while he told her stories of his childhood adventures. Now, Lauriat's nephew explores the area with her; fishing and catching crawfish while she draws the beautiful surroundings. Come join Branch on the July 25th to see the reminiscent quality that Michele Lauriat beautifully expresses in her work. |

Her work consists of drawings, paintings, prints, and sculptures which uphold her aesthetic appreciation for beauty and precision over efficiency. The Forest of And And And calls into question the separation of beauty and monstrosity. As mythical creatures whose bodies fuse disparate pieces, chimeras represent both unity and division. Mounted directly to the wall, the chimeras are fantastical hybrids which occupy a liminal space between reality and the imagination. |

Rock, Rattle & Drum Pow Wow's, Berkshires favorite Jerry "Thundercloud” McDonald will share his Mohawk culture, history, song and dance. Jerry "Thundercloud” McDonald is a traditional performing artist of the Mohawk Nation and Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy.Native American vendors have been invited to share their traditional and contemporary arts and crafts. |

Melody Rolph Solo Singer
Holden Street Parking Lot Kicking off the night is MCLA Senior, Melody Rolph. Hailing from a small town in New Hampshire has been singing since she was a little girl and loves to tinker around with various instruments. Her influences range from folk and classic rock to classical and musical theater tunes. Melody gets a lot of her artistic inspiration from her world travels, the beautiful Berkshires, various folk artists such as Joni Mitchell, and the country side that she grew up in. In the fall she will be a senior at MCLA with majors in arts management and Fine and Performing Arts. |

Found Sound Nation & Bang On A Can's Falculty & Fellows

Timur & The Dime Museum
Holden Street Parking Lot Stage Click here for more information. The dark glam opera band will present North Adams with a galactic multimedia show fusing avant-garde, pop & vaudeville sounds. Timur and the Dime Museum create a rich amalgam of sensibilities with Bjork fierceness, and Screamin' Jay Hawkins theatricality. Led by the rising opera singer from Kazakhstan Timur Bekbosunov, profiled in LA Weekly's BEST OF LA People Issue 2011, the band's stunning intensity brings songs to cure the new depression with a post-punk bohemian attitude.

The Caravan Project Dance Performance by Koma

Koma of the renowned Japanese choreographer/dancer duo, Eiko & Koma, will perform his butoh-inspired piece, "The Caravan Project", as recently seen at MOMA in New York City. This performance piece is in conjunction with the "CARAVAN PLUS" exhibition at 69 Union Street, which opens July 26th.
