LENOX, Mass — The eighth annual BrockTrot race returns on Sunday, Sept. 29, to increase lung cancer awareness and raise money for research.

"The BrockTrot is organized each year to increase awareness of lung cancer in nonsmokers," said John Toole, BrockTrot Race chairman and the co-founder of the Brock Wilkerson Memorial Cancer Research Fund. "Our goal is to raise money for research and early detection, in the hopes of one day eradicating this deadly disease. Not only are we out there to spread awareness and raise funds, but to have some fun and celebrate the life of Brock Wilkerson."

The fund has raised nearly $300,000 for single cell lung cancer research

Wilkerson passed away at 47 years old from lung cancer after a two year battle. A father, husband, marathon runner and active member of the Lenox community, he served on many nonprofit boards and competed in 13 marathons — three when he had cancer.

"We hope that each and every year, the BrockTrot, will bring family, old friends and new friends together, while reinforcing what was important to Brock — living, loving and enjoying every moment no matter what," Toole said.

Over 500 participants are expected to attend. Activities include a certified 10K, 5K and 1.5-mile kids race/walk at Shakespeare and Company and a 5K community pledge walk through Lenox.

Entry fees are:
  • $25 for the 10K
  • $15 for the 5K
  • $10 for the kids' race and community walk
After Sept. 16, the 10K and 5K races and community walk will cost an extra $5. Registration is available at www.brocktrot.org or 413-445-0767.

iBerkshires.com Sports
It will be a shorter trip for Berkshire County basketball fans who want to see former Monument Mountain basketball star Dion Brown play home games next winter.

On Wednesday afternoon, Brown announced via the social media platform “X” that he is transferring to Boston College.

“I am proud to announce my decision to further my academic and athletic career at Boston College,” Brown tweeted. “I am hopeful for the future! Go Eagles.”

In 2023-24, Brown, then a sophomore at Boston College, was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ Division I All-District Second team.

Brown was a first-team all-America East performer for the Retrievers last winter, breaking the school’s sophomore record for points with 607. He was third in the America East with 19 points per game and sixth in rebounding with 7.8 rebounds per game for UMBC, which went 11-21, losing to UMass-Lowell in the first round of the conference tournament.

B.C. went 20-16 last winter, falling to the University of Virginia in the quarter-finals of the ACC tournament and advancing to the first round of the National Invitational Tournament.
