NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Department of Public Health is holding public hearings on Friday, Nov. 1, on North Adams Regional Hospital's decision to close its inpatient psychiatric, critical care and pediatric units.
The public is invited to attend and to comment at the hearings that will be held at the American Legion on American Legion Drive. The hearing on pediatrics will begin at 10 a.m. and the hearing on the psychiatric and other services begins at 1:30 p.m.
The hearing will be a public forum for the presentation of any comments that may be relevant to the department's consideration of the proposed change. A number of officials and local health leaders are expected to attend. The panel will not be making any decisions but take comments for further review.
Written comments may be submitted to the Department of Public Health, Division of Health Care Quality, Attn: Closure Coordinator, 11th Floor, 99 Chauncy St., Boston, MA 02111 or HCQLicenseAction@MassMail.State.MA.US through the period of up to and including the date of the hearing.
All written or oral comments submitted to the department may be posted on the department's website and released in response to a request for public records.
The hospital has notified the department of its intent to close the Greylock Pavilion by January and focus on outpatient treatment in a emergency room "pod" and coordinate with regional partners for those patients requiring longer-term care.
