Register now for Y’s Youth Basketball League03:41PM / Thursday, October 31, 2013
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Family YMCA is now accepting registrations for its Youth Basketball League for boys and girls from ages 3 to 3rd grade. It will be held in the YMCA's gym at 292 North St. from Dec. 7 through Jan. 25.
Through the league, all children have equal playing time on the court. At practices and games, children will learn important character traits such as caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, as well as fundamental basketball skills and the rules of the game. During all games the score is not kept. The focus of the league is skill development and sportsmanship. Children of all skill levels are welcome.
Three divisions are available: Rookies (ages 3-4), Dribblers (K-1st grade), and Shooters (2nd-3rd graders). The Rookies Division will start the season with 4 weeks of skills clinics. Weeks 5-8 will consist of a 20-minute practice followed by a 32-minute game. Clinics and games will be at 9 or 10:15 a.m. on Saturdays.
The Dribblers Division (K-1st Grade) will practice for 20 minutes followed by a 32-minute game. Games will be at 11:30 or 12:45 on Saturdays.
The Shooters Division (2nd-3rd Grade) will have a 20-minute practice followed by a 32-minute game. Games will take place on Friday evenings or Saturday mornings.
Please note that game times are subject to change depending upon enrollment numbers. You should expect to hear from your coach by December 5 to give you the exact time for the first game or clinic.
All children will receive a T-shirt, as well as an end-of-the-year award. Children of different skills are welcome.
The cost of the league is $40 for members and $65 for non-members. An annual youth membership is $36.
