iBerkshires Storm Center: Cancellations for Feb. 5
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Cancellations are piling up along with the snow across the county.
A major snowstorm is coating the Berkshires with a lovely but potentially dangerous coat of white.
The winter storm warning is in effect until 6 p.m. with the potential for sleet mixed in later in the day.
Snow is falling at about 1 inch per hour with total accumulations ranging from 8 to 16 inches.
Adams, Clarksburg, North Adams and Richmond have declared snow emergencies and closed public buildings including town halls, libraries and Councils on Aging.
Clarksburg has canceled this morning's Selectmen's meeting; tonight's Adams Selectmen's meeting has been postponed to early next week.
Lenox has postponed tonight's Solar Committee meeting.
Clarksburg Town Administrator Thomas Webb is asking residents not park on town roads and impede the work of the snowplows. Mayor Richard Alcombright is asking residents to limit travel and reminds them that they are responsible for clearing sidewalks within 24 hours of the storm.
Pittsfield has also declared a snow emergency but has not closed public buildings other than the schools.
All public schools are closed as is Berkshire Community College for both day and evening classes.

Pittsfield Family YMCA is not offering after-school care at Richmond and Pittsfield elementary schools but the downtown program is open for school-age participants from these schools from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Phone: 413-499-7650.
The following fitness classes are cancelled due to the pending weather: Morning Cycle, SilverSneakers Classic and Aquafit. The Wednesday gymnastics program is canceled but will be extended one week.
