In the twenty years since "Loser” hit the charts and introduced the world to an ironic poet of breathtaking musical range, BECK has become one of the most creative and idiosyncratic voices in 21st century music of any genre, mixing influences as disparate as hip-hop, anti-folk, and hi-fi funk into a sound completely his own. Two of his albums appear in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, four have hit platinum, and his just released Morning Phase, is among his best. MASS MoCA is his only New England stop on this tour.

Push It
Push It includes the artwork of DownStreet Art alums Maya Hayuk and Christina Neener Stott. This exhibit seeks to further a conversation on how the contemporary art sub-genre, Street Art, is influencing fine art studio practice. Identified as art that is eye-catching or confrontational, Street Art is considered any work placed in a public venue in the form of wheat pasted graphics, wall stencils, paintings, object interventions or 3-dimensional installations. On display now at ArtNow New York until April 26th.

EXHIBIT

Three Decades of Photography and Video
Carrie Mae Weems is a socially motivated artist whose works invite contemplation of race, gender, and class. Increasingly, she has broadened her view to include global struggles for equality and justice. Comprehensive in scope, this retrospective primarily features photographs, including the groundbreaking Kitchen Table Series (1990), but also presents written texts, audio recordings, and videos. The exhibition traces the evolution of Weems's career over the last 30 years, from her early documentary and autobiographical photographic series to the more conceptual and philosophically complex works that have placed her at the forefront of contemporary art. Now on display at the Guggenheim until May 14, 2014.

Clarksburg Sees Race for Select Board Seat

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The town will see a three-way race for a seat on the Select Board in May.

Colton Andrews, Seth Alexander and Bryana Malloy returned papers by Wednesday's deadline to run for the three-year term vacated by Jeffrey Levanos.

Andrews ran unsuccessfully for School Committee and is former chairman of the North Adams Housing Authority, on which he was a union representative. He is also president of the Pioneer Valley Building Trades Council.

Malloy and Alexander are both newcomers to campaigning. Malloy is manager of industrial relations for the Berkshire Workforce Board and Alexander is a resident of Gates Avenue.

Alexander also returned papers for several other offices, including School Committee, moderator, library trustee and the five-year seat on the Planning Board. He took out papers for War Memorial trustee and tree warden but did not return them and withdrew a run for Board of Health.

He will face off in the three-year School Committee seat against incumbent Cynthia Brule, who is running for her third term, and fellow newcomer Bonnie Cunningham for library trustee.

Incumbent Ronald Boucher took out papers for a one-year term as moderator but did not return them. He was appointed by affirmation in 2021 when no won ran and accepted the post again last year as a write-in.
