PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Family YMCA presents the Tie Dye Dash, a new color run fundraiser, on Saturday, May 10, starting at 9 a.m.

The race is a 5K color run that begins and ends in Burbank Park, where victory is in doing your personal best. This race is not about being the fastest or being in the best shape; it is about encouraging healthy lifestyles. You can walk, jog, run or hop on one foot as long as you get out there and give it your all.

Dressed in a provided YMCA white T-shirt and sunglasses, you will pass through five splash zones where colored cornstarch powder will be tossed at you. By the end of the 3.1 miles (5K), you will be colored in a tie dyed array of creativity. The colored powder is 100 percent safe for people and the environment and is non-toxic. It washed out of your clothes, skin and hair and is safe to use on grass as well. It is recommended to wear white clothes that you don’t care about getting stained because it can stain if it gets wet.

All proceeds support the Pittsfield Family YMCA’s cause of youth educational programming.

After the race, there will be local food and beverage vendors, music, dancing, raffles and the best costume awards at Burbank Park

Parking will be available at Taconic High School and a shuttle bus will be provided to bring you to and from the start of the race.

On the day before the event, participants can pick up packets from 6 to 8 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. at the Pittsfield Family YMCA. Packet includes a map of the race and rules, one color packet, sunglasses and a white YMCA T-Shirt.

On the day of event, registrations with packet pickup will be held from 7 to 8 a.m. at the Controy Pavilion in Burbank Park. Cash, check and credit card accepted.

The race begins at 9 a.m., with waves every five minutes or so. Registration before May 9 is $40; day of race registration is $50. Children under 8 years old and all pets are not permitted to participate in the race.

To register, visit the YMCA, 292 North Street. Registration forms can be downloaded from pittsfieldfamilyymca.org. Participants can also register on active.com.

Dalton Select Board Argues Over Sidewalk Article

By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff
DALTON, Mass. — A heated discussion concerning sidewalks during Monday night's Select Board meeting resulted in the acting chair calling a recess to cool the situation.

The debate stemmed from the two articles on the town meeting warrant for May 6 at 7 p.m. at Wahconah Regional High School.

One proposes purchasing a sidewalk paver for $64,000 so sidewalks can be paved or repaired for less money, but they will use asphalt rather than concrete. The other would amend the town's bylaws to mandate the use of concrete for all future sidewalks.

The article on concrete sidewalks was added to the warrant through a citizen petition led by resident Todd Logan.

The board was determining whether to recommend the article when member John Boyle took the conversation in a new direction by addressing how the petition was brought about.

"I just have a comment about this whole procedure. I'm very disappointed in the fact that you [Logan] have been working, lobbying various groups and implementing this plan and filed this petition six weeks ago. You never had any respect for the Select Board and …" Boyle said.

Before Boyle could finish his statement, which was directed to Logan, who was in the audience, Chair Joe Diver called point of order via Zoom.
