Pittsfield Suns Drop Two Against Torrington
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Suns lost both games of a doubleheader to the Torrington Titans on Thursday evening at Wahconah Park. The final score of the first game was 12-3 and was the completion of the July 3 contest that was suspended because of weather. The final in game two was 3-2.
Game one resumed play in the first inning with the Suns down 5-1 to the Titans. Torrington added to their lead, scoring one run in the second and fourth innings, three runs in the fifth inning and an additional two in the seventh inning. The Suns were only able to muster two runs in the seventh, and were defeated 12-3. Connor Landers (3-0) gets the win for the Titans, going six and two third innings while giving up nine hits, three runs, three walks and striking out three. Justin Finan (1-2) was hit with the loss for the Suns.
In game two, Torrington posted all three of their runs in the fifth inning, with two runs coming off the bat of Taylor Olmstead who tripled. Pittsfield would attempt a rally in the sixth inning, scoring two runs on a Steve Dill triple. The Suns would fall short, leaving Dill at third, solidifying a 3-2 defeat. Torrington’s Zachary LaRosa (1-1) earns the win and Finan is charged with his second loss of the night.
The Suns return to face the Seacoast Mavericks at Wahconah Park on Saturday, July 12. The Spectacular Independence Day Fireworks display will take place following the game after being postponed on July 4th because of weather. Fans holding tickets to the July 4th game may exchange their tickets to Saturday’s contest or for another 2014 Suns game.
