Sorrento Slam Helps Lift SteepleCats

SANFORD, Maine -- Sacred Heart's Victor Sorrento hit a grand slam to lead the North Adams SteepleCats to an 8-5 win over Sanford on Monday night in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
 
Christopher Fornaci started the rally with a leadoff walk. After the Mainers retired the next two, Logan Boyher and Jim Haley each drew a walk to load the bases. Sorrento followed with his second home run of the summer to give North Adams a 4-0 lead.
 
Sorrento finished the game hitting 2-for-5, and Hunter Lee went 1-for-3 with a triple.
 
Josh Garran earned the win on the mound with eight strikeous, five hits and two walks over six innings.
 
Garran got help from four relievers, including Mount Greylock graduate Rob Buffis, who pitched a third of an inning.
 
North Adams (8-6) travels to Newport, R.I., on Wednesday night.
