NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Hunter Sarkis and Logan Briggs Tuesday evening singled back-to-back to spark a three-run rally that lifted MountainOne to a 6-2 win over Morrison Berkshire in the first game of the city Little League championship series.
The teams will meet again on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. for Game 2 of the best-of-three series at Fallon Field on the campus of Greylock Elementary. If Morrison Berkshire bounces back and evens the series, Game 3 is scheduled for Friday.
MountainOne had a 2-1 lead after two innings on Tuesday. Sarkis' one-out single to left sparked the rally that put his team on top, 5-1.
Morrison Berkshire got a run back in the fourth. Justin Cowell, who walked, stole a base and scored a run in the first, tripled to lead off the fourth. A wild pitch then brought him home to make it 5-2.
MountainOne added an insurance run in the fifth when Jackson Owensby doubled, moved up on Jonathan Cornell's sacrifice and scored on a sacrifice by Natel Paredes.
Sarkis earned the win on the mound for MountainOne. Cowell took the loss for Morrison Berkshire.
