HOLYOKE, Mass. -- The Valley Blue Sox scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the lead and hung on for a 4-2 win over the North Adams SteepleCats on Friday night in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
Manuel De Jesus doubled home two runs in the eighth to break a 2-2 tie after Graham McIntire scored on a groundout in the top of the inning to even the score for North Adams (9-7).
The 'Cats got the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth but could not get him into scoring position.
Mount Greylock graduate Rob Buffis started on the mound for the SteepleCats. He went 6-2/3, striking out two and allowing two hits and no earned runs, lowering his ERA to 5.87 in a no-decision.
North Adams is scheduled to travel to Vermont Saturday evening before coming home to face Laconia, N.H., on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
