POWNAL, Vt. — Leaders from The Bennington Museum, Mass MoCA and the Clark Art Institute with be among the prestigious judges of Southwestern Vermont Health Care’s upcoming Healthy Living Photo Contest.

Winners from two categories, youth photographers (18 years and younger) and adult photographers (19 years and older), will be honored. The top prize is $300. Photographs will be featured at SVMC’s new primary care facility in Pownal, scheduled to open this fall.

Two representatives from the community of Pownal will judge as well. Rick Morgenthal is a Pownal resident and a donor to SVMC Pownal Campus project. Ben Ferguson is the art teacher at Pownal Elementary School.

Community members are encouraged to submit photos to Southwestern Vermont Health Care’s (SVHC) photo contest.  The aim is to celebrate health and everything people do to enjoy life in Vermont and the region.

“Our health is affected by what we do that brings us joy. We want to inspire our community members to be active and to cherish the lifestyle Vermont provides” said James Trimarchi, PhD, SVHC director of planning. “Programs like this are part of SVMC’s drive to encourage health and build community.”

Participants should photograph people doing what they love. Examples include laughing and having fun with friends, hobbies, experiencing Vermont’s beauty, and caring for others. Participants are encouraged to decide what brings them joy and makes them happy and healthy.

Entrants can submit photos for consideration electronically at svhealthcare.org/photocontest through Sept. 21.

The judges will evaluate the photos based on creativity, photographic quality, genuineness, connection to local community and relation to health. Preference will be given to photos with a connection to the local area, including southwestern Vermont, western New York, and northern Massachusetts.
