Two Properties Sold at Adams Public Auction
ADAMS, Mass. — The town had few bites during its public auction on Wednesday — selling only two of the nine properties.
Although the Visitors Center was filled with potential buyers during the auction hosted by Sullivan and Sullivan, most left empty-handed leaving the town with only $67,500 from properties taken for taxes.
Treasurer and Tax Collector Kelly Rice said although the results could have gone better, she was happy some of the properties sold and optimistic about next year's auction.
"It didn't go as well as anticipated, but I am waiting for some new properties," Rice said "Probably next December we will have new ones."
The most heated contest was the 8Tower Ave. property which sold for $65,000, which three buyers battled for.
The only other gain for the town was a mixed use property on 74 Summer St. that sold for $2,500.
A property on 87 Orchard St. received a $15,000 bid. This did not meet the minimum bid of $25,000. Even after the minimum bid was lowered to $20,000 the buyer did not budge.
Other Summer Street properties, 58-60 and 62, were passed by the bidders and even when the auctioneer offered to group the properties, no one raised their hand.
20-22 Melrose St., 23-25 Albert St., 18 Victory St., and 7 Grove St. were also up for auction, but did not revive any bids. This was the last time the properties will go to auction.
Four of the properties were ones that did not sell at the last auction in December.
All properties were sold as is.
