North Adams Chowderfest Winners for 2016
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — More than 3,000 samples of chowder were served between noon and 2 at Saturday's Winterfest.
The 60 degree temperatures on Main Street drew hundreds to line up outside 85 Main, where 11 restaurants and food service departments were scooping up their signature dishes for the annual Chowder Cook-Off.
More than 400 ballots were cast for People's Choice awards, with favorite Boston Sea Foods taking first place with 76 votes.
Coming in second with 55 votes was newcomer Grazie, which just opened in North Adams, and North Adams Commons took third with 44 votes.
Another frequent fan favorite, Bounti-Fare, took first with the judges this year for its hearty seafood chowder with NoCo Pastaria's tomato-based version in second place and '6 House Pub of Williamstown in third.
Judges were Mayor Richard Alcombright, Northern Berkshire Community Coalition Director Adam Hinds and iBerkshires.com Editor Tammy Daniels.
The festival also included wagon rides, hot cocoa, a bonfire on Holden Street and several (melting) ice sculptures.
Sponsors were Greylock Federal Credit Union, MountainOne Bank, Scarafoni Associates, and First Hartford Realty Corp.
