Anthony Birthplace Museum Seeks New Volunteers

ADAMS, Mass. — The Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum at 67 East Road is seeking volunteers to help with its operations.

Museum Executive Director Colleen Janz said volunteers "enhance the experience of our guests and are an integral part of the staff. Volunteers keep the museum thriving, functioning and continuously growing. They give their time and talents to ensure the success of this non-profit organization and support the mission."

Volunteers will work with staff members to teach about the importance of 19th-century civil rights activist, the Quaker faith that formed her perspective and the era of reform in which she worked. They can help as docents, in the gift shop or behind the scenes working to maintain the quality programs and experiences the museum offers.

There are a wide variety of positions available, from working with the public to the gardens to communications. The museum is seeking enthusiastic and dependable people, regardless of background and experience. It also offers opportunities for high school students to gain experience as gift shop volunteers during the summer months or in research through the Junior Internship Program.

Other opportunities include impersonating Frederick Douglass to read his letter on July 5, laying pavers on May 15, working in the children's program on Saturday mornings throughout the summer and taking photographs.

Those interested are invited to a picnic on Saturday, May 14, from noon to 1:30 at the museum. For more information: www.susanbanthonybirthplace.org, colleen@susanbanthonybirthplace.org or Janz at 413-743-7121 during business hours. The museum is currently open from 10 until 4 p.m. Thursday through Monday (11:30-4 on Sunday).
