The U13 girls began with a fantastic start to their campaign, a 2-1 win against a strong GPS Metro Boston team. The girls kept their shape and discipline throughout the match and fought hard to come back from a 1-0 deficit SDA displayed a lot of character and desire to win, in order to fight their way back into the game and gain themselves three points.

The U12 boys travelled away from home to face GPS Boston Metro Reds. After taking the lead through an early goal, this proved to be a difficult challenge for the first match of the season against a strong opposition. And the Metro Reds prevailed, 6-1.

SDA U14 boys traveled to SFC this weekend for the opening game. They began the season in a magnificent fashion with a 5-0 win over their opponents. The match started very evenly with positive attacking play from both sides, confirming their determination to get their season off to the best possible start. SDA grew into the game and started to take control of the individual battles.

SDA U15 girls traveled to Stars of Massachusetts Athletic. After an even start of the game, the Stars team edged SDA in their physical play and controlled most of the possession. SDA managed to get a goal and with some good defending, battling and goalkeeping the girls managed to hold out throughout a tough first half. But the Stars pulled away for a 5-3 win after half-time.

Toy Library Installed at Onota Lake

By Brittany PolitoiBerkshires Staff

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Feel free to use or leave a toy at Onota Lake's newest infrastructure meant to foster community and benefit kids.

Burbank Park now has a toy library thanks to Wahconah Regional High School senior Alexandra Bills. Located along the wall at the beach area, the green and blue structure features two shelves with sand toys that can be used to enhance children's visits.

The Parks Commission supported Bills' proposal in February as part of her National Honors Society individual service project and it was installed this month. Measuring about 4 feet wide and 5.8 feet tall, it was built by the student and her father with donated materials from a local lumber company.

Friends and family members provided toys to fill the library such as pails, shovels, Frisbees, and trucks.

"I wanted to create a toy library like the other examples in Berkshire County from the sled library to the book libraries," she told the commission in February.

"But I wanted to make it toys for Onota Lake because a lot of kids forget their toys or some kids can't afford toys."

Bills lives nearby and will check on the library weekly — if not daily — to ensure the operation is running smoothly.  A sign reading "Borrow-Play-Return" asks community members to clean up after themselves after using the toys.

It was built to accommodate children's heights and will be stored during the winter season.
