PITTSFIELD, Mass. — North Adams Mayor Richard J. Alcombright has endorsed Adam Hinds for state Senate in the Berkshire, Hampshire, Franklin and Hampden District. Hinds is running for the Democratic nomination for the office.

"I am very pleased to support my colleague and community leader Adam Hinds," said Alcombright.

Pointing to Hinds' vast experience working shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the most under-served members of the region, Alcombright said, "Adam's work in Pittsfield with at-risk youth was inspirational and his transition to working with the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition — in some of the most challenged neighborhoods of North Adams — was seamless."

The mayor said Hinds had met significant challenges head on in his community engagement.

"I have known and interacted with Adam for several years and have found him to be hard-working, intelligent, and thoughtful.  Adam takes his leadership role very seriously in listening to the concerns of the greater northern Berkshire community around transportation, medical services, addiction, education and the economy," Alcombright said. "And Adam doesn't just listen, he is a leader of action. Adam is driven to serve."

Hinds was raised in the district by a father who spent time in the military, owned a small business and retired from the public school system. Hinds' mother also worked in public education. The candidate worked in the offices of U.S. Rep. John Olver and U.S. Sen. John Kerry before serving for close to a decade with the United Nations, largely stationed in the Middle East. He returned to the district to work with the Pittsfield Community Coalition before being recruited to lead the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition.

"I have valued working with Mayor Alcombright on the challenges facing North Adams and the region," Hinds said of the mayor's endorsement. "Mayor Alcombright works tirelessly for the people of North Adams, and I am truly grateful to have his trust and support in my race for state Senate."

"One of the things that most impresses me about Adam is that he truly cares for his constituency, from the youth of Pittsfield to the underserved of Northern Berkshire," said the four-term mayor. "These are qualities we have come to know well in our representation on Beacon Hill, and with Adam Hinds as our next state senator, qualities we will continue to see."
