St. Stans to Host Color Run Fundraiser

ADAMS, Mass. — St. Stanislaus Kostka School will host a "My School Color Run" this weekend to raise funds for the parochial school.

Principal Linda Reardon said the color run is not your standard race or really a race at all, but a chance for the community to get together for a 5k fun run in which participants will be blasted with color.

"As runners travel along the route, they are sprayed with colored water," Reardon said. "This is not a race, just a fun run in which all members of the family can participate. It is a healthy alternative to the usual fundraisers involving the purchase of food or other products."

School color runs take place throughout the country. Schools can contact My School Color Run consultants who will guide the school through the process and provide T-shirts, spray applicators, color packets and other items.

Reardon said teachers who participated in Color Runs through different organizations thought it would be worthwhile to bring the race to St. Stans.

Reardon said the fun run allows St. Stan's to conduct a different kind of fundraiser that promotes healthy living and community.

"We wanted to do an event that built community as well as raised money without someone having to buy chocolate, wrapping paper or candles," she said.

The race starts at the Polanka Picnic Grounds and travels up Mill Street and Hoosac Street to North Summer, then on to Lime for a turnaround at Print Works Drive.

There is also a mile walk follows the same route, but just to the corner of Murray Street and North Summer Street and back.

Reardon said after the race there will be "colorful" activities for children including face painting and a giant painted mural.  There will be refreshments on site also.

At the end of the race, there will be a color explosion.

"When the runners are all in, they gather together to release color packets that cover their wet shirts and create an explosive color effect on their T-shirts," Reardon said.

Reardon said so far more than 100 people have signed up for the race.

"The reaction has been very positive, and this event has gained popularity in the last several years," she said. "A few of our families have participated in a run in Albany and in Pittsfield. To our knowledge, we think this is the first color run in North Berkshire."

The closest appears to be the Pittsfield Family YMCA's Tie Dye Dash at Burbank Park.

Reardon said people can still sign up for the race, to take place Saturday, Sept. 24, by calling the school or picking up a registration form.

Check in starts at 8:30 a.m. and the race starts at 9:30.

Adams Sees No Races So Far

By Jack GuerinoiBerkshires Staff
ADAMS, Mass. — With less than a week left before nomination papers are due, there are currently no contested seats.

Only selectman incumbent John Duval has returned papers. Selectman Howard Rosenberg has decided not to seek re-election.

Rosenberg, who was elected in 2021, said he has chosen not to run again to make room for younger candidates.

"I feel strongly, we need younger people running for public office,  as the future of our town lies within the younger  generation. The world is so fundamentally different today and rapidly changing to become even more so. I believe we need people who are less interested in trying to bring back the past, then in paving the way for a promising future. The younger generation can know that they can stay here and have a voice without having to leave for opportunities elsewhere," he said.

The only person to return papers so far is former member the board Donald Sommer. Sommer served as a selectman from 2007 to 2010 and before that was a member of the School Committee and the Redevelopment Authority. He ran unsuccessfully for selectman in 2019 and again in 2021 but dropped out of before the election.

Incumbent Moderator Myra Wilk and Town Clerk Haley Meczywor have returned papers for their respective positions.

Assessor Paula Wheeler has returned papers and incumbents James Loughman and Eugene Michalenko have returned papers for library trustees.
