St. Stan's Students Pray for Nation as Election Looms

Pupils make out ballots at St. Stan's School on Monday.

ADAMS, Mass. — With only hours remaining before Election Day, students and staff at St. Stanislaus Kostka School gathered to pray for the country. And for students to cast their own ballots for president -— Hillary Clinton won with 47 percent of the vote.

As the eighth-graders presented intercessions for every category of people, from our future leaders to the marginalized, a candle was lit to represent continued vigilance and prayers for all the needs in America.

"Though this campaign season seems to have gone on forever, anticipation of the election day outcome was on everyone's mind on Monday," according to eighth-grader Kaeli Dean.

Throughout the day, on Monday, each grade visited the fourth-grade classroom to participate in a mock election exercise. According to Tammy Barosso, fourth-grade teacher, her students prepared for this day for weeks.

"Today, our excitement is at its peak," she said. Her class spent days discussing the positions of each of the four candidates.

Closer to Election Day, they prepared 13 voting booths, hand-printed ballots, assigned greeters, and made American eagles to symbolize American freedoms, rights, and responsibilities.

The results of the mock election: Hillary Clinton, 57; Donald Trump, 48; Gary Johnson, 9; and Jill Stein, 7.

"With both participation in voting and prayer as a school community, St. Stanislaus Kostka School looks to our country's future with renewed hope," said Principal Linda Reardon.
