Kindergarten Registration Dates Scheduled Around County

Schools across Berkshire County are holding registration days for next year's kindergartners. Schools can submit their information to be added to this list to info@iberkshires.com.


* Adams: St. Stanislaus Kostka School is now registering for the 2017-2018 school year. Openings are available in grades pre-kindergarten through grade eight. Financial aid is available for qualified applicants. Schedule a shadow day at 413-743-1091.

 

* Clarksburg: Kindergarten registration has begun for the Clarksburg Elementary School. Call the school at 413-663-8735 to register your child for the fall. Children must be five years of age by August 31, 2017.

 

* Florida: The Gabriel Abbott Memorial School has begun the process of registering students for the 2017-2018 kindergarten and pre-kindergarten classes.

The school offers a full-day preschool program for the residents of the towns of Florida and Monroe at no cost to the parents.  There are also a select number of private pay slots available for children in neighboring towns at a rate of $100 a week. Students must be 5 years of age or older on Aug. 31 in order to register for kindergarten. Students must be 3 years of age or older on Aug. 31 in order to register for pre-kindergarten.

Screening of children entering kindergarten will be held on May 20 at the school. Parents who have concerns about their preschool eligible student can also arrange a screening at the same time. Please call 413-664-6023 to schedule a screening appointment or to inquire in regards to self-pay slots in preschool for students who reside outside of the towns of Florida and Monroe.

Adams Free Library Pastel Painting Workshops

ADAMS, Mass. — Award-winning pastel artist Gregory Maichack will present three separate pastel painting workshops for adults and teens 16+, to be hosted by the Adams Free Library. 
 
Wednesday, April 24 The Sunflower; Wednesday, May 8 Jimson Weed; and Thursday, May 23 Calla Turned Away from 10:00 a.m. to noon.  
 
Registration is required for each event.  Library events are free and open to the public.
 
These programs are funded by a Festivals and Projects grant of the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
 
This workshop is designed for participants of all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. Attendees will create a personalized, original pastel painting based on Georgia O’Keefe’s beautiful pastel renditions of The Sunflower, Jimson Weed and Calla Turned Away. All materials will be supplied. Seating may fill quickly, so please call 413-743-8345 to register for these free classes.
 
Maichack is an award-winning portraitist and painter working primarily in pastels living in the Berkshires. He has taught as a member of the faculty of the Museum School in Springfield, as well as at Greenfield and Holyoke Community College, Westfield State, and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
