Hoosac Valley Names Larabee, Bresett Top Students

CHESHIRE, Mass. — Christopher H. Larabee has earned the distinction of being named as valedictorian and Olivia G. Bresett as salutatorian for the class of 2017 at Hoosac Valley Middle and High School. 
 
Graduation exercises will be held this Friday, June 2, at 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.
 
Larabee is the son of Christopher and Elizabeth Larabee of Cheshire. He is vice president of the class of 2017 and a member of the National Honor Society for two years. He also is a recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship, the Massachusetts Superintendent's Award and the Dana Labee Football Award for 2017. The Dana Labbee Award is given to a member of the football team who is the ultimate team player. 
 
Larabee is a four-year player of the football and baseball teams, including on the two Western Mass championship teams. An active member of the community, he volunteers his time as a National Honor Society tutor, completed community service projects with his athletic teams, and has shown his school spirit being this year's manager of "The Red Sea," Hoosac Valley's fan section. 
 
In his junior year, he received the Clarkson University Leadership Award and the Cornell Club Sweat Shirt Award. He received several Presidential Awards for Academic Excellence in AP Language and Composition and U.S. History II Honors.
 
Having set high academic standards for himself, his approach to academics and learning is expected to help him in his future as he plans to attend Boston University, where he will major in chemistry.
 
 
Bresett is the daughter of William and Lisa Bresett of Adams. She is a member of the Leo Club, vice president of the National Honor Society, and a member of the Student Government as secretary for the class of 2017. Her athletic history includes soccer, basketball, track and the ski club. She has received various awards including All-Berkshire first and second teams for soccer, the Berkshire County Sportsmanship Award, the Community Italian American Organization's Berkshire County Soccer Hall of Fame Scholarship Award and the 2017 Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award. 
 
She also is an active member of the community and represented her school on the Dominican Republic Service Learning Trip during which her team helped in beautification of a school and its landscape. Bresett is also a recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship.
 
In her junior year, she received The Sage Colleges Student Sage Recognition Award and Wells College 21st Century Leadership Award. She also received a Presidential Award for Academic Excellence in Business Applications.
 
Olivia has achieved a high level of academic performance. Her success in the classroom will help her, as she will attend Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., where she will major in bioengineering.

Cheshire Tag Sale and Bazaar

CHESHIRE, Mass. — The Cheshire Community Association (CCA) announced the return of the Cheshire Community Tag Sale and Bazaar for its second year. 
 
Scheduled for Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 9 AM to 1 PM, the event offers a day of treasure hunting, local craftsmanship, and treats at the Cheshire Community House located at 191 Church St, Cheshire.
 
Attendees can explore a variety of offerings, including handmade crafts, antiques, collectibles, and food options. The hot food truck, operated by the Berkshire Lodge of Masons AF & AM, will be stationed in the courtyard, serving up treats throughout the event.
 
One of the highlights of this year's event is the fundraising raffle, with all proceeds set to benefit the Cheshire Food Pantry. Participants can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes, supporting a worthy cause that serves the local community.
 
Registration for vendors interested in participating in the bazaar is currently open, with fees ranging from $10 to $30. Cheshire residents looking to showcase their items from home can have their locations advertised on the event map for a fee of $10. The deadline for registration is set for Friday, April 26, 2024.
 
Registration forms can be obtained from various locations across Cheshire, including A to Z Printing, Cheshire Community House, Cheshire Library, Cheshire Glassworks, Cheshire Senior Center, the Cheshire Community Association Facebook page, and the Cheshire Town website.
