Lenox High Names Student Graduation Speakers for 2017

LENOX, Mass. — Joseph Bouvier and Emmaeve Jourdain have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the Lenox Memorial High School class of 2017, according to Principal Michael Knybel.
 
Graduation exercises will be held Sunday, June 11, at 1 p.m. at Tanglewood.
 
Bouvier, son of Daniel and Tricia Farley-Bouvier of Pittsfield, is the captain of the soccer, cross country skii, and baseball teams. He also participates in Students as Voices for Empowerment, Latin Club and the Peer Mentoring Program, and is a member of the school's improvisational comedy troupe, The Poorly-Timed Sneezes. 
 
As a member of Quiz Team, Bouvier was selected to compete for Lenox High on the televised high school quiz show, "As Schools Match Wits." He was also an attorney on Lenox's mock trial team during his junior and senior years.
 
Bouvier was named a Commended Student by the National Merit Scholarship Program, and he achieved summa cum laude three years in a row on the National Latin Exam. He also is a member of the Lenox Chapter of the National Honors Society. His teachers awarded him World Language Achievement Awards in French and Latin, the Yale Book Award for his outstanding personal character and intellectual promise, and the Eric Foner Award for his outstanding work in the study of U.S. history.
 
Bouvier plans to study chemistry at Williams College in the fall. 
 
Jourdain, daughter of Jeff and Kelly Jourdain of Becket, has been an active member of the Student Council for the past four years, as well as a member of the Lenox Chapter of the National Honor Society. 
 
She is a captain of the cross country, cross country ski, and track teams. Jourdain has also been given several awards for her success in running including Berkshire County MVP for two years. She plans to continue her athletic career in the fall. Jourdain was also an MIAA ambassador for her high school. 
 
Her teachers selected her to receive the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award her senior year and she was selected as a Triple Impact Competitor finalist. She also received the Harvard Book Award, Expository Writing Award, and the Gerda Lerner Award for her outstanding contribution to the study of women and gender in U.S. history. 
 
Jourdain plans to attend University of Maine in Orono, where she will study marine biology and biology. She is very excited to join Black Bear Nation and travel the world when she is older.

Lenox Library Lecture Series to Feature Mark Volpe

LENOX, Mass. — Lenox Library will conclude the 2023-2024 season of its Distinguished Lecture Series this Sunday, April 21, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. when Mark Volpe, former President and Chief Operating Officer of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, will discuss "My 23 Years at the Boston Symphony Orchestra."

During his near-quarter-century with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Mark Volpe distinguished himself among orchestral administrators the world over.?He was responsible for all the activities of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops Orchestra, and Tanglewood, a scope of activities unmatched by any other orchestra in the world.?He drove the BSO’s artistic mission of musical excellence by bringing the BSO to the widest possible audience through live performances, traditional and new media, and a variety of social media platforms. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mark worked tirelessly to lead the BSO through the most challenging period in its history.

Now in its 17th season, the Distinguished Lecture Series is organized and hosted by Dr. Jeremy Yudkin, a resident of the Berkshires and Professor of Music and Co-Director of the Center for Beethoven Research at Boston University.
