ADAMS, Mass. — The Berkshire Mountains Faerie Festival has grown beyond the town of Adams and is drawing magic from throughout Berkshire County.

And the festival set this Saturday, June 17, from 10 to 10 at Bowe Field is expected to double attendance.

"We have taken from last year what worked really well and went, poof!" Adams Arts Advisory Board member and organizer Gail Sellers said. "Last year, we had 2,000 people so we are hoping to double that and we are getting people from outside the immediate area and it is not just an Adams event."

The event features more than 40 artists, crafters, performers and vendors from Cheshire, North Adams, Pittsfield and Williamstown, as well as from South County. Sellers added that the event has been bolstered through other artist hubs throughout the county, giving the Faerie Festival new wings in its second year.

Among the entertainment at the fairgrounds will be whimsical activities such as performances from the Misty Blues Band, Aimee Gelinas, Slow Pony and Creative Movement. Robbins-Zust Marionette Family Theater will perform as well as Ravenbanes Firecrafts.

There will also be readings from authors Jana Laiz, Kristen Demeo, Jennifer Holey and Gordon Holey.

New this year will be the Black Willow Woods Faerie Village that will light up at night. Sellers said there will be a wishing tree inside where visitors can place wishes.

Attendees will also be able to find Turrenian, Builder of the Realm, and help him build the village.

Sellers said there will be activity tents with different demonstrations and projects throughout the day. The Art School of the Berkshires will lead a number of projects and there will be a community paint-by-number.

Sellers added that that at Queen Deirdre's tent, attendees can embellish their wings.

"Wings are for sale if people don't have their own and even if they don't have wings, the queen will still anoint them as Faerie Ambassadors," Sellers said. "There will be a tent to decorate new wings or embellish old ones."

Festivalgoers are encouraged to come in costume.

There will also be a Yu-Gi-Oh! storytelling tent and card game demonstration and a geocaching demonstration.

Sellers said the Faerie Festival has worked alongside the MAGICon "Harry Potter" Convention that will take place Sunday, June 18, at the Greylock Glen. Some of the Faerie Realm dwellers, such as Grulaach and the Blue Frost Faerie, may even make an appearance.

Gates up at Bowe Field at 10 a.m. Admission is $6 and children age 12 and younger get in for free.

All proceeds go toward promoting the arts in the area.

Adams Sees No Races So Far

By Jack GuerinoiBerkshires Staff
ADAMS, Mass. — With less than a week left before nomination papers are due, there are currently no contested seats.

Only selectman incumbent John Duval has returned papers. Selectman Howard Rosenberg has decided not to seek re-election.

Rosenberg, who was elected in 2021, said he has chosen not to run again to make room for younger candidates.

"I feel strongly, we need younger people running for public office,  as the future of our town lies within the younger  generation. The world is so fundamentally different today and rapidly changing to become even more so. I believe we need people who are less interested in trying to bring back the past, then in paving the way for a promising future. The younger generation can know that they can stay here and have a voice without having to leave for opportunities elsewhere," he said.

The only person to return papers so far is former member the board Donald Sommer. Sommer served as a selectman from 2007 to 2010 and before that was a member of the School Committee and the Redevelopment Authority. He ran unsuccessfully for selectman in 2019 and again in 2021 but dropped out of before the election.

Incumbent Moderator Myra Wilk and Town Clerk Haley Meczywor have returned papers for their respective positions.

Assessor Paula Wheeler has returned papers and incumbents James Loughman and Eugene Michalenko have returned papers for library trustees.
