Southwestern Vermont Health Care Foundation Names 2017 Vision Award Honorees

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Every September, Southwestern Vermont Health Care presents the Vision Awards at the Harvest Ball, an event sponsored by the SVHC Foundation. The ball will take place on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the 1768 Hubbell Homestead at Colgate Park in Bennington.
This year, SVHC will honor a physician and a family for their efforts to advance the health system's vision of healthier communities. The honoree for SVHC's 2017 Health Care Leadership Award is Dr. Brian Cunningham. The Hoyt Family is the recipient of SVHC's 2017 Distinguished Community Service Award.
"Dr. Cunningham and the Hoyts have made irreplaceable contributions to both SVHC and the surrounding communities," said Thomas A. Dee, president and CEO of SVHC. "It is through their service and generosity that we are fulfilling our mission of exceptional care and comfort."
Dr. Cunningham practiced as an internist and as a rheumatology specialist with SVHC for more than 30 years and served in many key leadership roles within the health system, including trustee and president of the medical staff. He continues his service to medicine as an educator and as a board member of local health organizations, as well.
The Hoyt Family is the 2017 Vision Award honoree for Distinguished Community Service. Through their valuable contribution towards a linear accelerator, an advanced cancer treatment technology, SVMC has greatly improved the lives of hundreds of patients. The Hoyt's philanthropic support in the Northshire has expanded opportunities for the area's leading intellectual and humanitarian organizations.
"I can think of no recipients more deserving of these prestigious awards," said Tommy Harmon, chair of the SVHC Board of Trustees. "They set the standard for what it means to give generously to improve the lives of others."
Both Cunningham and the Hoyts will be honored at the eighth annual Harvest Ball on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the 1768 Hubbell Homestead at Colgate Park. All proceeds will benefit the continued development of palliative care services in the Cancer Center and throughout the health system.
