MCLA Women's Tennis Qualifies for Conference Tourney

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The MCLA women's tennis program clinched a spot in the North Atlantic Conference tournament with a resounding 8-1 win over Thomas Sunday afternoon.
 
MCLA (4-5, 4-3 NAC) will go on to face Colby Sawyer next weekend in the opening round of the championships.
 
The Trailblazers swept through the doubles action to go ahead 3-0.  Mount Greylock graduate Mariza Sfakianaki and Sam Gawron won a hard fought 9-7 match in the top slot. Teammates Briana Higgins and Ashley Juskhas won 8-3 in the second doubles match while Lauren Kexel and Katherine Grill won by the same score heading into singles play.
 
Sfakianaki handled Olivia Mora 6-3, 7-5 in the number one singles match while Gawron would earn a 6-1, 6-3 win over Irune Arruti Moreno.
 
Higgins would earn the clinching point with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sadie Farrand. Juskhas and Grill would also earn points as MCLA closed out the match.
