NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Emergency response agencies are hosting a fundraiser and cookout for the victims of the Las Vegas shooting this Saturday at Noel Field.

Assistant Chief of the North Adams Ambulance Service Amalio Jusino said this Saturday from 10 to 2 local emergency services will host a fundraiser complete with hot dogs, hamburgers and some emergency response presentations to benefit the victims of the Las Vegas shooting earlier this month.

"We work closely as EMS, Fire and Police in the past several years to develop our response to an active shooter or hostile Mass Casualty event," Jusino said.

"Our plan came from myself and several others from North Adams Ambulance Service meeting and taking a class from the Clark County Responders. The same ones that responded to this event, as we were in Vegas for an EMS Expo years ago."

Jusino said he was inspired to host the cookout seeing a video about how people come together, especially for dinner.

"That made me want to serve food, bring people together and raise money," he said. "I then thought while we had them all here, why not teach them life-saving interventions such as tourniquets and pressure dressings."

Jusino said Emergency Response Consulting will be at the fundraiser to present life-saving techniques that were used during the attacks in Las Vegas.

"We urge people to go for, obviously, donations, but the life-saving intervention training," he said. "The same training that helped save over 500 people in Las Vegas, numerous people in Boston during the bombing. Tourniquets save lives."

"Civilians are on scene before Responders. They can learn the same life-saving skills."

Jusino said they will be collecting donations from the buckets of love throughout the event and will also be at Main Street intersection from 11am-1pm.
