Babson Tops MCLA Women at Springfield College Tourney

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Babson College broke open a tie game in the third quarter, and Payton Ouimette notched a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds as the Beavers defeated MCLA, 75-51, Sunday in the Naismith Classic at Springfield College.
 
Babson (7-4) and MCLA were knotted at 25-25 at halftime. The Beavers outscored the Trailblazers 31-16 in the pivotal third quarter to take command. Ouimette scored 11 of her 19 points in the second half.  
 
The Beavers came out of the locker room, and Elizabeth Lane and Tea Spellacy drilled back to back 3-pointers to open up a 31-25 lead. The Traiblazers (4-6) pulled within one at 33-32 after Courtney Pingelski hit a 3 of her own, but from the there the Beavers took over.  
 
MCLA placed four players in double figures led by Drury graduate Emily Moulton and Pingelski who each had 12 points. Sam Gawron and Hoosac Valley's Mckenzie Robinson ended with 10 apiece. The Trailblazers were hampered by 27 turnovers in the setback.
 
The Trailblazers will continue their difficult stretch of games this week as they head to Schenectady, N.Y., to face Union on Tuesday night for another non conference matchup.

BAAMS' Monthly Studio 9 Series Features Mino Cinelu

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — On April 20, Berkshires' Academy of Advanced Musical Studies (BAAMS) will host its fourth in a series of live music concerts at Studio 9.
 
Saturday's performance will feature drummer, guitarist, keyboardist and singer Mino Cinelu.
 
Cinelu has worked with Miles Davis, Sting, Weather Report, Herbie Hancock, Tracy Chapman, Peter Gabriel, Stevie Wonder, Lou Reed, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Vicente Amigo, Dizzy Gillespie, Pat Metheny, Branford Marsalis, Pino Daniele, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Salif Keita.
 
Cinelu will be joined by Richard Boulger on trumpet and flugelhorn, Dario Boente on piano and keyboards, and Tony Lewis on drums and percussion.
 
Doors open: 6:30pm. Tickets can be purchased here.
 
All proceeds will help support music education at BAAMS, which provides after-school and Saturday music study, as well as a summer jazz-band day camp for students ages 10-18, of all experience levels.
 
Also Saturday, the BAAMS faculty presents master-class workshops for all ages, featuring Cinelu, Boulger, Boente, Lewis and bassist Nathan Peck.
