NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The frigid weather that followed Thursday's snowstorm has also caused a number of closures and cancellations. This is an updated list of closures and cancellations.
A wind-chill warning is in effect from 1 a.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Sunday. The National Weather Service is forecasting wind chills from 5 to 35 below zero.
North Adams is prepared to open its emergency shelter should the need arise. If any North Adams resident is in need because of the cold — such as loss of heating or insubstantial heat source — they should contact public safety at 413-664-4944.
Almost all Berkshire County public schools systems were closed with a handful operating on a 2-hour delay. Find the list here.
Several communities, including Clarksburg, North Adams and Pittsfield have declared snow emergencies notifying residents not to park on streets so plows can get through. Adams has taken the extra precaution of declaring a state of emergency because of the wind and frigid temperature warnings.

Berkshire Museum reopens Friday at 11 a.m.
If your normal trash pickup day is Wednesday or Thursday, Republic Services will be picking up your trash and recyclables today, Friday, Jan. 5. Republic currently has six trucks operating in the city, three for trash pickup and three for recyclables. Wednesday and Thursday routes should be completed by the end of the day. Artic weather conditions are predicted for tomorrow, so Republic Services may not be able to pick up trash. The city will provide a further update later today about when Friday's normal routes will be picked up.
