North Adams has declared a snow emergency from noon Wednesday through 10 a.m. on Thursday. No parking is allowed on the streets between those hours to expedite snow removal.

From Mayor Thomas Bernard:

Completing one road treatment or snow clearing pass of the city takes approximately three hours to complete, and the Public Services crew will make several passes throughout the city over the course of the storm. So even with seemingly lighter accumulation than initially predicted it really does help with the cleanup when residents stay off the roads as much as possible and honor the overnight parking ban.

Please be patient as the crew completes their work. If over the course of the storm a street gets missed or other significant issues arise, please contact Public Services dispatch at 413-662-3047.

Finally, as we look ahead to the aftermath and cleanup from this storm, we ask for everyone's help with sidewalk clearing. We know that the nature of recent storms – including Sunday's wet, heavy snow followed by rain and a hard freeze – can make this cleanup difficult for everyone including our crews working downtown, but it is vitally important for accessibility and safety.

Pittsfield has declared a snow emergency through Thursday at 7 a.m. Parking restrictions are waived for the McKay Street Garage and the first floor of the Columbus Avenue Garage. Trash pickup is still on schedule.

Greylock Snow Day posted on Tuesday that it has a "high confidence in the early release for all districts in Berkshire County, and a better than 55 percent chance that we get full snow days for all."

"This storm is expected to bring snow, freezing rain, sleet, and ice to locations across the Commonwealth meaning that members of the public should monitor roadway conditions and make informed decisions before heading out onto the roadways," said Highway Administrator Jonathan Gulliver. "While the initial early morning commute may be free of impacts, we expect that heavy snow and mixed precipitation including sleet and freezing rain will fall throughout the day, possibly creating challenging conditions for the afternoon commute. Drivers should reduce speeds, give themselves extra time to reach their destinations, and provide plenty of space to snow and ice equipment on the roadways."

State Department of Transportation snow and ice operations will be deployed as conditions necessitate. Crews are currently conducting preparation activities in advance of the winter weather including pretreating roadways with brine and magnesium chloride.

In the worst storms this season, MassDOT's Highway Division would be able to utilize up to 700 personnel to perform snow and ice removal operations on more than 15,000 lanes miles of roadway throughout the Commonwealth. This snow and ice season, MassDOT will have approximately 4,200 pieces of state and vendor equipment available using over 150 depots and storage locations. This includes over 1,300 plow and spreader combos, 2,100 plows, and 460 front-end loaders.

Driver are reminded not to "crowd the plows" and lower their speeds. Call ahead to destinations to ensure they are open. Residents and businesses are reminded to clear sidewalks after the storm and help clear fire hydrants.
