CHESHIRE, Mass. -- The Adams seventh and eighth grade boys basketball team defended its home turf in defeating Housatonic, 46-35, to win the Adams Boy's Basketball Tournament.
Adams started the tournament by defeating Lenox by a score of 52-40. Shawn Kastner led the way for Adams with 11 points and Carson Meczywor chipped in 10 and Caleb Harrington had eight. Adams then defeated Dalton, 42-31, with Meczywor pouring in 25 while Kobe Valois supported him with 12. Valois led the way in the semi-final as Adams defeated Housatonic, 43-38. Meczywor helped with nine points.
Housatonic defeated North Adams to earn another shot at Adams. Housy came from 15 points down in the third quarter to cut Adams lead to four midway through the fourth, but Adams held on to prevail, 46-35. Valois led the way with 16 points and Meczywor followed it up with 13. Aaron Bush led the way all weekend long with his defense and strong team play.
Adams has won three out of four tournaments in the county and has a record of 18-2. Members of the team are Carson Meczywor, Aaron Bush, Shawn Kastner, Logan Davis, Kobe Valois, Blake Trumble, Caleb Harrington, Lucas Waterman, Brian Dillard, Brodie Lanoue, Colby Marko, Mike Szabo, Vernon Lewis and Max Morin.
Greylock's boys went 1-2 at the Adams Tournament, beating Lee by falling to eventual finalist Housatonic and semi-finalist North Adams.
Housatonic 60, Greylock 54
Connor Hanovan scored 17 to lead Housatonic, which got 14 points from James Carr and 11 from Caden Generok.
Derek Paris scored 21, and Dylen Harrison and Chase Doyle added 12 and eight points, apiece, for Greylock.
Greylock 57, Lee 36
Derek Paris scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Greylock in a bounceback win on Saturday morning.
"Derek had another tremendous game," Greylock coach Rick Paris said. "It's great having him because he works so hard on both sides of the ball. Then off the bench both Seamus Barnes and Max McAllister chipped in eight apiece, both hitting two 3s each. They were really instrumental in us spreading the floor to help make it easier for Derek to get to the hoop."
Lee got 14 points from Alejandro Smith and 11 from Hayden Siok.
North Adams 40, Greylock 34
Sincere Sanders and Keemon Jacob-Barrow each scored 10 to lead North Adams, which went on a 10-0 run in the first half to erase an early Greylock lead.
Derek Paris scored 23, grabbed 12 rebounds and had seven steals for Greylock, which got five points from Dylen Harrison.
