SVMC Nurse to Speak at American Association of Heart Failure Nurses Meeting

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Jennifer G. Thuermer of Southwestern Vermont Medical Center's Cardiology Department will present at the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses 14th annual meeting in Chicago in June.

Thuermer will be a co-speaker during the research session. She will share her experiences developing and executing nursing research.

Thuermer's research relates to older adults with symptomatic heart failure and their experiences with adhering to a sodium-restricted diets. As part of her program, the study findings are being integrated into an education program specifically designed for nurses caring for the heart failure population.

Thuermer earned her doctor of nursing practice (DNP) from Regis College in Weston, Mass. She joined SVMC Cardiology (originally Bennington Cardiology) in 2000 after receiving her master of science and post-master certificate as an acute care nurse practitioner from Sage Graduate School. She has worked at SVMC since 1993. Thuermer completed her bachelor's degree in nursing at Colby-Sawyer College. She is also an Associate of the American College of Cardiology.

The AAHFN Annual Meeting is a forum for the presentation of the latest information available on clinical care, treatment of patients, and research in the field of Heart Failure provided in a multi-disciplinary format. The AAHFN is a specialty organization dedicated to advancing nursing education, clinical practice and research to improve heart failure patient outcomes. The organization's goal is to set the standards for heart failure nursing care.
