SVHC Foundation Names 2018 Vision Award Honorees

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Southwestern Vermont Health Care will present the 2018 Vision Awards at the organization's inaugural Centennial Gala. The awards recognize individuals who have made significant contributions in support of SVHC’s mission and the community.
This year, SVHC names two Vision Award honorees, a physician and a family, for their efforts to advance the health system’s vision of healthier communities. The Health Care Leadership Award recognizes a current or former member of the medical staff who demonstrates excellence in medical practice and patient care and whose service is aimed at improving health care in our region. SVHC's 2018 Health Care Leadership Award honoree is Dr. Michael E. Brady.
The Distinguished Community Service Award honors a member of the community for their commitment, support and service to Southwestern Vermont Health Care's mission and vision. The Hunter Family, representing the James H. and Irene M. Hunter Charitable Trust, is the recipient of SVHC's 2018 Distinguished Community Service Award.
"The positive impact Dr. Brady and the Hunters have made on our health system and in our communities cannot be overstated," said Thomas A. Dee, president and CEO of SVHC. "It is through their generous support and their dedicated service that we fulfill our mission of exceptional care and comfort while achieving our vision as a preeminent, rural health care system."
Brady earned his dentistry degree at Columbia University in New York in 1972 and his bachelor's degree at Villanova University in Pennsylvania in 1968. He started his career as a dental officer in the United States Navy stationed in Florida. He has performed general dentistry in the Bennington area for 43 years, specializing in children's dentistry at Molly Stark Elementary School in Bennington for 18 years, and now leads SVMC's new dentistry practice. He has been a member of Southwestern Vermont Medical Center's medical staff since 1974 and has served on SVHC's Board of Trustees.
Throughout more than two decades, the Hunter family has supported nearly every educational and arts initiative in southwestern Vermont and many in the Berkshires in Massachusetts and the eastern Capital District of New York. Apart from their interests in education and the arts, the family led an initiative to establish a major community park and ice arena in Manchester, Vt., known as Hunter Park. Through their valuable contribution to the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center, SVMC will greatly improve the experience for hundreds of patients and families.

Dr. Brady and Susan Hunter, along with family members, will be honored at the Centennial Gala on the eve of Southwestern Vermont Medical Center's 100th anniversary, Saturday, June 9, at the 1768 Hubbell Homestead at Colgate Park in Bennington.
