Bulldogs Win 8-Year-Old Cal Ripken Western Mass State Title
BOLTON, Mass. -- Nolan Barnes hit a grand slam Saturday to help lift the Lanesborough Bulldogs 8-and-under Cal Ripken baseball team to a Western Massachusetts State Championship.
In the championship tournament’s final game, Hudson took an early lead before Barnes’ homer knotted the score.
Kieran Johnson, Max Mozian and Joe Hatakeyama then each had big hits to put the Bulldogs ahead, 12-9.
Pitcher Jackson Sheehy did the rest, closing the door and not allowing a run in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.
The Bulldogs move on to the regional championship in Dedham, Mass., on July 21.
