Salem State Men's Soccer Blanks MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The visiting Salem State men's soccer team scored a 2-0 MASCAC victory over the MCLA Trailblazers Friday evening at Shewcraft Field.
 
The game was scoreless for most of the first half until the visitors caught a break. The Vikings (11-2-2, 4-1-1 MASCAC) finally broke through in the 40th minute when MCLA was whistled for a hand ball in the box.
 
The resulting penalty kick was taken by Lucas Amaral, who calmly deposited the ball into the lower right corner giving the Vikings a 1-0 edge heading into halftime. Salem owned a 12-5 shot advantage in the opening half of play.
 
Damon Deocleciano scored with just under five minutes remaining to put the game out of reach.  The goal was his second of the season.
 
Salem State's Gus Savage earned his first win of the season in net to improve to 1-0-1.  He stopped three shots in the win.
 
Holvin Nieves suffered the loss and drops to 0-3 on the season. He collected five saves on the night.
 
MCLA (0-13-1, 0-6) is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Keene State in the home finale at 6 p.m.

BAAMS' Monthly Studio 9 Series Features Mino Cinelu

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — On April 20, Berkshires' Academy of Advanced Musical Studies (BAAMS) will host its fourth in a series of live music concerts at Studio 9.
 
Saturday's performance will feature drummer, guitarist, keyboardist and singer Mino Cinelu.
 
Cinelu has worked with Miles Davis, Sting, Weather Report, Herbie Hancock, Tracy Chapman, Peter Gabriel, Stevie Wonder, Lou Reed, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Vicente Amigo, Dizzy Gillespie, Pat Metheny, Branford Marsalis, Pino Daniele, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Salif Keita.
 
Cinelu will be joined by Richard Boulger on trumpet and flugelhorn, Dario Boente on piano and keyboards, and Tony Lewis on drums and percussion.

All proceeds will help support music education at BAAMS, which provides after-school and Saturday music study, as well as a summer jazz-band day camp for students ages 10-18, of all experience levels.
 
Also Saturday, the BAAMS faculty presents master-class workshops for all ages, featuring Cinelu, Boulger, Boente, Lewis and bassist Nathan Peck.
