Gaudette Backstops Teddy's Pizza to Box Lacrosse Title

Print Story | Email Story
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Tyler Gaudette made 38 saves Wednesday to lead Teddy's Pizza to a 26-16 win over the Young Guns in the Berkshire Box Lacrosse League Championship.

Zeke Sondo scored 10 goals, and Jimmy Chase had six goals and five assists for Teddy's, but the difference was the play of Gaudette, who posted a save percentage of .703.

"We lost to the Young Guns earlier in the season," Gaudette said. "I didn't take it well. I've been waiting for another opportunity. Dart Jaggi shot 90 percent against me last time."

Jaggi had two goals and two assists in the title game. Billy O'Neil led the Young Guns with five goals, and Dayton Kozlowski scored four.

"We fought hard today," Young Guns captain Matt Fortin said. "It's tough playing two games in a night. But our younger guys really shined.

"O'Neil is only a freshman, but he had the vision of a much wiser player. And Dart Jaggi and Dayton [Kozlowski] have been playing box year round. You can see how they've grown."

The league plays at The Infield on Lyman Street.

"It's such a great sport," Infield owner Mike Massey said. "I've been happy to host the box league here for nine consecutive seasons.

"It's a growing sport, and we're happy to see it grow. Every year, the box lacrosse league gains popularity and is a great way for players to stay active in the off-season."
