Brown, Stubbs Help Spartans, Hurricanes to Two-Point Wins

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Hoosac Valley and Monument Mountain boys basketball teams Thursday earned two-point wins in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League.
 
For the Hurricanes, Izaha Stubbs had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 61-59 win over Mount Greylock.
 
Joe Delmolino scored 12, and Carson Meczywor added 11 in the win.
 
Mount Greylock's Mitchell Jezouit scored 18, and Toby Foehl and Malcolm Waynick added 16 and 14, respectively. Liam Brady had a double-double with 11 points and 16 boards.
 
Dion Brown scored 40 points to lead Monument Mountain to an 88-86 win over Drury.
 
Conner Hanavan scored 15, and Zach Goffin added 12 for the Spartans.
 
Drury's Scott McGuire Jr. matched Brown with 40 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Hunter Sarkis scored 22, and Lewis Guillotte had 10 for the Blue Devils.
 
On Sunday at Noel Field, it will be two games in the men's division starting at 6:30. Fortitude Strength & Conditioning faces Waterman's Excavating, followed by RJ's Taxi against Yard Work By Dan.

Adams Free Library Pastel Painting Workshops

ADAMS, Mass. — Award-winning pastel artist Gregory Maichack will present three separate pastel painting workshops for adults and teens 16+, to be hosted by the Adams Free Library. 
 
Wednesday, April 24 The Sunflower; Wednesday, May 8 Jimson Weed; and Thursday, May 23 Calla Turned Away from 10:00 a.m. to noon.  
 
Registration is required for each event.  Library events are free and open to the public.
 
These programs are funded by a Festivals and Projects grant of the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
 
This workshop is designed for participants of all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. Attendees will create a personalized, original pastel painting based on Georgia O’Keefe’s beautiful pastel renditions of The Sunflower, Jimson Weed and Calla Turned Away. All materials will be supplied. Seating may fill quickly, so please call 413-743-8345 to register for these free classes.
 
Maichack is an award-winning portraitist and painter working primarily in pastels living in the Berkshires. He has taught as a member of the faculty of the Museum School in Springfield, as well as at Greenfield and Holyoke Community College, Westfield State, and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
