Search for Missing Pittsfield Man Focused at Greylock Glen

William Malloy
ADAMS, Mass. — The search for a missing Pittsfield man has shifted to Mount Greylock State Reservation after his car was located off Gould Road over the weekend.

State Police and other agencies continue to search for William Malloy, 57, who was reported missing several days ago. Anyone who may have seen him or has information on his whereabouts to contact the Cheshire barracks at 413-743-4700, or call 911.

Malloy was reported missing to Pittsfield Police on Saturday, Aug. 8. He was last heard from on Sunday, Aug. 2. Malloy failed to appear for a new job he was scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 3, and did not show up for a visit with his family in upstate New York that was to have occurred on Thursday, Aug. 6. Pittsfield officers checked his home on Saturday and did not find him or his car there.

The car was subsequently located parked at a trail head off Gould Road in the town of Adams, near the Greylock Glen, part of Mount Greylock State Reservation. On the evening of Aug. 8, State Police, Adams Police, and Department of Conservation and Recreation park rangers searched the area around the vehicle's location but did not locate Malloy.

On Sunday, Aug. 9, troopers, Adams officers, DCR rangers, and members of the Berkshire Search and Rescue Team conducted a more thorough search of the area, utilizing State Police and local police K9 units. Again, the search teams did not Malloy nor any additional evidence. The State Police Detective Unit for Berkshire County has joined the investigation.

Pittsfield Fire Responds to Kitchen Blaze

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A fire caused $2,000 in damage to a kitchen in a Benedict Road home on Thursday.

Firefighters responded to the call at 126 Benedict shortly after noon and found smoke showing from the rear of the single-family, wood-frame structure. The homeowner had extinguished the majority of the fire before firefightered arrived.

The E-5 crew ensured the fire was completely extinguished; Tower 1 ventilated the home while E-3 firefighters retrieved a dog from the smoke-filled home.

According to the report by Deputy Chief Daniel Garner, the kitchen sustained fire and smoke damage -- particularly to the cabinets and appliances -- and the rest of the first floor incurred minor smoke damage.

The occupants were evaluated for smoke inhalation by Action Ambulance personnel but were not taken to the hospital. No one was injured and the cause was accidental.
