Wilfrid 'Norm' Robert, 90

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Wilfrid "Norm" Robert, 90, local business owner and devoted family man, of North Adams, Mass., died Thursday January 17, 2019, at Williamstown Commons surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in North Adams, Mass., on July 19, 1928, son of Augustine and Marie (Delisle) Robert.  He attended the Notre Dame Parochial School and graduated from the Drury High School with the class of 1946 and graduated from Bliss Business College in 1952. Norm was a veteran of the US Air Force.

He was first employed by the Deerfield Glassine for about nine years until becoming manager of the Mount Greylock Bowl. Norm then worked as office manager at Hayden Oil and Supply from 1964 to 1982. In 1978, he purchased the Mount Greylock Bowl, which he operated until he sold the business in 1999.

Norm was a longtime communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and later Sts. Patrick and Raphael Church. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed not only bowling himself but also organizing many house leagues and junior bowling programs. He enjoyed playing golf and was a charter member of the Waubeeka Golf Links. He was also a member of the Post #125 American Legion, the Greylock Community Club and Northern Berkshire Retired Men's Club. Norm was a longtime volunteer and driver for the American Cancer Society.  

He enjoyed playing cards and especially enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren's activities and sporting events. Norm was a kind, thoughtful, and soft-spoken man who lead by example and was loved by all who knew him.

His first wife was Frances M. (Calnan) "Pal" Robert; she died on October 15, 1978. They were married on July 4, 1953.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa Marie (Charron) Law Robert, whom he married on September 28, 1979; his children, Laura C. Clune and her husband, James, of North Adams, Mary B. Robert of Adams, Lawrence M. Robert and his wife, Carol, of Shaftsbury, Vt., Denise Bragdon and her husband, Sean, of Lynn Haven, Fla., and Constance P. Tatro and her husband, Brian, of North Adams; his son-in law Mark Lincourt of Chicopee, Mass.; 16 grandchildren, Carrie Lincourt Workman, Christopher, Richard and Eric Lincourt, Rebecca Brown Koczela, Thomas Brown, Jennifer Brown Doyle, Laura Brown Endres, Tiela and Ethan Robert, Ashbey and Zachary Bragdon, and Ahren, Audrey, Micheal and Ali Tatro; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, William Robert of Troy, N.Y.; his stepchildren, Kenneth Law of Texas, Gordon Law of California and Jennifer Girard of North Adams; 11 step-grandchildren, Daniela Warmuth, Kathrin Lee, Ashley Shearer, Drew and Bryce Law, Angela Duda, Amy McDonald, Christina, Lindsey and Nathan Girard; and Emily Hinkell; 10 step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.  

His daughter, Eileen A. Lincourt, died on October 8, 1996. He was also predeceased by two stepdaughters, including Nancy Goss and Janice Law; his sister, Blanche Walden; and his brother, Valmore Robert.

Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Norm Robert will be celebrated Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church.  Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.  

Calling hours are Monday, January 21, 2019, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, Mass. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
